National Training Programme for Community Food Workers

The development of a National Training Programme for Community Food Workers was one of the objectives of Community Food Enterprise Ltd (CFE). This is the first programme of its kind in the country and has its roots in the experience of community food workers in many parts of England and in particular food access and food poverty projects in the London Borough of Newham. This is a 28 session programme comprising seven units spread over four months.

The National Training Programme aims to:
  • provide an accredited framework of training and study, which will resource the development of food working in local communities;
  • train and give confidence to individuals working, paid and unpaid, in food access and other community based food projects, and also strengthen organisations and social movements involved in combating food poverty;
  • develop learners` skills appropriate for food working, particularly in groups and in the context of community based social and economic regeneration.
The Programme covers a range of issues and areas relevant to food working: food access, food poverty, nutrition, cooking skills, food policy, food, environment and globalisation.
